Dubrovnik

DUBROVNIK
Dubrovnik - the city of a unique political and cultural history (the Dubrovnik Republic), of world-famous cultural heritage and beauty (inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO) - is one of the most attractive and famous cities of the Mediterranean. Dubrovnik is the city of the highest historical and cultural value and of an outstanding artistic importance. The town fortifications, ramparts and towers outside the walls were built, reinforced and reconstructed in the period from the 12th to the second half of the 17th century. An independent, merchant republic for 700 years; it traded with Turkey and India in the East and had trade representatives in Africa. It even had diplomatic relations with the English court in the middle ages.

Cavtat
CAVTAT
Originally it was a Greek settlement called Epidaurum. Around 228 BC it was under the Romans and later became a Roman colony.
The name Cavtat originates from Civitas vetus, as the fugitives in the newly established Dubrovnik used to call their first habitation. Archaeological finds from those times include the remains of a Roman theatre , as well as tombs and the remains of a Roman road above the present town.

The ancient town was destroyed at the beginning of the 7th century, during the invasions of the Avars and the Slavs. - The remains of town ramparts toward the mainland and the Renaissance-style Duke's Palace, a work by local masters, have been preserved from the 15th/16th century. The Baroque parish church features wooden altars. The parsonage houses an art gallery.

The collection of Baltazar Bogišić contains numerous graphics by domestic and -foreign artists, ethnographical objects and a small archaeological collection of stone monuments and fragments. The large library keeps also several extremely valuable books. The house of Vlaho Bukovac keeps a collection of his paintings and mementoes.

On the cemetery is the mausoleum of the Racic family, a work by Ivan Mestrovic (1920-1930) and in the town the monument of Baltazar Bogisic.

Split
SPLIT
A city with a 1700-year old tradition, a variety of archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, among which the well-known Palace of Diocletian, inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List, certainly occupies a special position. The old part of Split is located within the walls of Diocletian's Palace. According to its dimensions and level of preservation, the Palace represents an example of Roman architecture on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. It was constructed around AD 300 and has a rectangular ground plan. Its form and arrangement of the buildings within the Palace represent a transitional style of an imperial villa, Hellenistic town and Roman camp.

ZADAR
16 interlinked lakes between Mala Kapela Mountain and Plješevica Mountain in the region of Lika are inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
The upper lakes, surrounded by thick forests and interlinked by numerous waterfalls, lie in a dolomite valley, while the lower lakes, smaller and shallower, surrounded only by sparse underbrush, lie on the limestone bedrock.

The Lakes receive most of their water from the rivers called Bijela and Crna Rijeka (White and Black Rivers), which are joined into one course south of Prošćansko Lake.
The upper lakes are separated by dolomite barriers, which grow with the formation of travertine, forming thus travertine barriers. The lower lakes were formed by crumbling and caving-in of the vaults above subterranean cavities through which water of the upper lakes disappeared.

Trogir
TROGIR
Lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and nice alleys are given the opportunity in Trogir to learn about the heritage - from the Romanesque yard to the modern interiors. The unique historical core, Radovan's portal, the art collections which have been arousing excitement among visitors and travellers for centuries offer a tourist beauty, personified in the relief of Kairos as an appropriate souvenir.
The wider surroundings of Trogir (Trogir - Seget - Ciovo Riviera) is characterized by lavish green vegetation, numerous islands and islets, rocky and pebble beaches.
The old core is situated on a small island between the island of Ciovo and the mainland; connected with the mainland by a small stone bridge, and with the island of Ciovo by a drawbridge. The town spreads to the northern coast of Ciovo, opposite the small island.
